COURSES Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D)
Doctor of Pharmacy is one of the new courses introduced in the Indian pharmaceutical education. The first and foremost role of a pharmacist is to make the patient feel happy about his health and provide better advices for the patient apart from dispensing medicine. As members of the health care team composed of physicians and nurses, among others, pharmacists have an opportunity for direct involvement with patient care. The knowledge and clinical skills that the contemporary pharmacist possesses, make this individual an authoritative source of drug information for physicians, nurses, and patients. The opportunities exist in Hospital pharmacy, Academics, Clinical trials, Regulatory affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Drug Monitoring Services.
Duration: Pharm D course shall be of six academic years (five years of study and one year of internship or residency) each academic year spread over a period of not less than two hundred working days. Sixth year involves posting in specialty units training students in pharmacy practice or clinical pharmacy services
Eligibility: Pharm.D: 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Mathematics or Biology, Or A pass in D.Pharm; completed 17 years of age.
Master in Pharmacy
The Master of Sciences of Pharmacy( M Pharma) is the standard Master's degree course in Pharmacy. it is the honourable Diploma(Degree) authorized from the European Facuilties of Pharmacyas it take five to seven years to complete.
1. Pharmaceutical Technology
Duration: The course of study including submission of dissertation on the topic registered shall be of 24 months (Two Years) duration from the commencement of academic term.
Eligibility: A candidate should have passed B.Pharm degree examination of RGUHS or B.Pharm examination of any recognized Indian University as established by law in India or should have completed any other degree courses in pharmacy recognized as equivalent by RGUHS University or Pharmacy Council of India,(PCI) and/or All India Council of Technical Education (A I.C.T.E,) for this purpose and should have secured not less than 50% of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years) prescribed for the qualifying examination. Then s/he shall be eligible for admission to the M.Pharm course.For SC / ST / Category-I (Karnataka) candidates must have a degree in B.Pharm
Bachelor in Pharmacy
A Bachelor in Pharmacy is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of Pharmacy.The degree is the basic prerequisite for registration to pratice as a pharmacists in many countries and its about understanding the properties and the impacts of medicines and developing the skills required to counsel patients about their uses.
Duration: 4 years
Eligibility: Candidates should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following - Mathematics / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Biology. Obtained at least 40% marks (35% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together. Candidates who have passed D.Pharm course approved by Pharmacy Council of India shall also be eligible to this course and can be admitted directly to II Year.
Doctor of Pharmacy – Post Baccalaureate (Pharm D - PB)
Duration: 3 years (two years of study and one year internship or residency)
Eligibility: A graduate in B. Pharm degree examination of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences or B. Pharm examination of any other recognized Indian University established by law in India. He may also have completed any other degree courses in Pharmacy recognized as equivalent by RGUHS and Pharmacy Council of India.Eligible candidates who may be of the capacity to join in the fourth year of Pharm.D course as lateral entry are allowed.
Third Year Post Baccalaureate: Internship or Residency Training
The students will dedicate one year for Internship or residency training including postings in specialty units. Student should provide the clinical pharmacy services under supervision of a preceptor to the allotted wards.Six months in General Medicine department, andtwo months each in three other specialty departments
Library: The college library has an excellent collection of books. The library stocks current science journals, research publications in addition to regular reference titles. It contains a wide range of books, videos, CDs and electronic databases.
Hostel: The college provides separate hostel facilities for male and female students. The facility caters to and looks after the needs of students who are from all over the country and abroad.
