Physiotherapists evaluate the functional capabilities & potentials of clients, some with correctable problems & some with permanent changes. They strive to help the clients to maximize their potentials, thereby preventing the recurrence / deterioration of the problem by using therapeutic exercises, mobilization techniques, various physical modalities like Heat, Cold, ultrasound, UVR, IRR & electricity based on scientific evaluation.
Physiotherapy as a Profession plays an important role in various other branches of medical profession like Orthopaedics, Sports, Neurology, cardiothoracic, obstetric & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Community Based Rehabilitation and ergonomic evaluation & advice, etc.
J.S.S. Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore was established in the year 1954 by His holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the pontiff of Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Math, Suttur. It has established & is nurturing over 300 institutions comprising of schools, colleges & Professional courses in Ayurveda, Dental, Engineering, Medical, Naturopathy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy & Speech and hearing.
The JSS college of Physiotherapy was established in the year 1999 by the blessings of the present pontiff, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji with an intension of creating competent Physiotherapists with contemporary knowledge & innovative skills who can promote rehabilitation, health & fitness.
Physical therapists are qualified and professionally required to:
-undertake a comprehensive examination/assessment of the patient/client or needs of a client group
-evaluate the findings from the examination/assessment to make clinical judgments regarding patients/clients
-formulate a diagnosis, prognosis and plan
-provide consultation within their expertise and determine when patients/clients need to· be referred to another healthcare professional
-implement a physical therapist intervention/treatment programme
-determine the outcomes of any interventions/treatments
-make recommendations for self-management.
JSS College of Physiotherapy is set to carve inroads in the professional arena in all three domains of academics, patient care and research.We have a team of committed professionals who combine professional enthusiasm with large doses of human values. In keeping with the JSS Math’s philosophy of spreading education, we at our college strive to provide wide ranging experiences in the various areas of physiotherapy. Physiotherapy / Physical Therapy
Physiotherapy is a field which provides information about human body mechanics in normal & abnormal state of health. It involves the evaluation and treatment of numerous physical conditions affecting all age groups and aims at restoring normal movements, function, relieve pain, Prevent illness and injury.
Prospects of the Course
Physiotherapy as a profession has its role in various disciplines like Orthopedics, Neurology, Pediatrics, Sports Medicine, Cardiorespiratory conditions, General Surgery, and Community Based Rehabilitation.
What do Physiotherapists do?
Physiotherapists help patients to overcome a particular problem by educating them about the problem and how to prevent the recurrence of the same. This is achieved by a thorough assessment, which may include tests of muscle strength, joint Motion, sensory and neurological functions, coordination, balance, flexibility, postural screening, movement analysis and other evaluations.
Based on the evaluation a treatment plan is drawn up. It may comprise of instrumental or non-instrumental intervention. In the field of Physiotherapy there, are various hands-on techniques which include soft tissue mobilization and Joint mobilization skills to reduce pain, increase joint motion and soft tissue flexibility. Therapeutic exercise will help to restore strength, movement, balance & coordination and finally to a complete functional recovery.
A physiotherapist reviews the conditions and monitors the progress to aid recovery.
Scope of Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists have a wide range of opportunities to work in India and abroad. There are various openings in hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, fitness club, sports team, government and nongovernment organizations.
Physiotherapists are an integral part of rehabilitation team comprising of Physician, Social Worker, Occupational therapists, nurse, Vocational counselor, Psychologists, Prosthetist, and Orthotist.
JSS College of Physiotherapy offers MPT in 5 streams as per RGUHS norms. These are orthopedics, neurosciences, cardio-pulmonary sciences, CBR and paediatrics.
MPT consists of faculty-directed classes, self-directed learning with seminars as output, clinical work, limited undergraduate teaching assignments and a thesis. Students will be expected to independently evaluate and manage patients. The first year will consist of clinical rotations through all areas and the second year will consist of specialty clinical postings.
The M.P.T program is intensive with the significant amount of self-learning including seminars, journal clubs and other academic activities.
Six months of rotatory internship in various areas of speciality is part of the B.P.T curriculum. JSS hospital has facilities for internship in all areas. Moreover, JSS college of physiotherapy has a strong community-based rehabilitation program. We accept students from other colleges including other countries for whole/part of the internship program.
